Does that chant sound familiar??? It is what was ringing out of West Ham fans last night after Arsenal managed to throw away yet ANOTHER lead (this time 2-0) to a much inferior team, but a team that wanted it more than Arsenal.
How long and how many times does this team have to “Learn from our mistakes” until Wenger gets ruthless and eradicates those that are causing the mistakes, or at least, PREVENTING mistakes from happening? Last year against Spurs, same thing… Last year against Aston Villa, 2-0 up, same thing. This year against AZ Alkmaar, same thing… when WILL the lessons be learnt and the mistakes cease to exist?
It’s difficult to blame any one player from the latest session of “bottling it.” You could say that Song should not have made that challenge, but then again, the MOST experienced Gallas was let off only 5 mins earlier when he clearly fouled Scott Parker in the penalty area. So one could say that it was justice done. You could blame Diaby for the petty foul on Hines that led to the free-kick that was then headed home by Carlton Cole, but then again, it wasn’t really a foul so it would be hard to blame him.
The blame for this one lies with Wenger. When he saw that the Arsenal team was wilting, he chose to sit on his hands and not make a few changes to keep things fresh. Arshavin looked disinterested and could have been taken off for Eduardo. Eboue SHOULD have been taken off for Bendtner or even Nasri for the final 20 mins. These are changes that Wenger SHOULD have made proactively instead of throwing Eduardo and Bendtner on, once the game was tied at 2-2 and the momentum was firmly with the Hammers.
Just like the great commentator, Martin Tyler said “you can’t just turn it on when you like” a reference to Arsenal ceasing to play with any urgency after going 2-0 up. They should take a leaf out of Chelsea’s book and totally finish the team off as they did versus Blackburn.
It’s become a very repetitive and quite frankly, BORING subject to write about now, the fact that Arsenal cannot hold onto a lead. The defense has not improved. Sure Gallas and Verminator get along, but we still leak goals left, right and center, and a 2-0 lead is no longer a safe lead. In fact 2-0 for Arsenal is only good enough to almost guarantee a draw, whereas for Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea would close out the game.
I’m very skeptical about the North London Derby on Saturday… Let’s hope these now EXPERIENCED players have learnt from their mistakes and really play with urgency and passion for 90 mins, not 45!
C’mon you Gooners…

I wish I could disagree with you on this one but you’re right. I thought we were too complacent even when the game wasn’t over. The introduction of Hines and Diamante should have signalled to us that we needed to up the game especially since those two players made all the difference.
Let’s just hope we play differently on Saturday against Harry Hoodini’s men!
