With their seemingly ‘bottomless’ financial pocket, Manchester City the big money spenders are finding out one of the limitations of what they seem to have an abundance of – MONEY!
Manchester City’s 3-3 draw on Saturday to Burnley at home marked their 5th successive draw and makes me wonder why over twenty million pounds was spent on defensive power during the transfer window?
With all due respect to the quality of the players (Toure & Lescott), there’s more to having a strong defense than spending some unwarranted cash for players who ‘might’ be the right fit.
Burnley actually took the lead in this game in an almost shocking manner considering how easy the goals scored were. Manchester City’s defense went on a short slumber walk on those goals with these multi-million dollars defensive power found wanting.
I really think Manchester City look the real deal when going forward with the likes of Craig Bellamy, Carlos Tevez, Sean Wright-Phillips, Emmanuel Adebayor etc, and are an unavoidably a credible threat. But a draw against Burnley shows that theres a lot more Mark Hughes needs to do with his defense that money can’t buy if his side is to be considered a top-four club.
