It’s no longer news that Wigan (the same team that beat the league leaders Chelsea a few games ago) got absolutely humiliated by Tottenham Hotspur led by the ‘on fire’ Jermain Defoe who helped himself to 5 goals, but one thing from that game might be news worthy and that is the insatiable appetite to score more even until the final minute.
How many times have we watched football matches involving teams such as the likes Arsenal or Manchester United or Chelsea where they had immeasurable possession and the number of goals scored is not reflective of that? Too many time I say.
It is always frustrating to watch for someone like me who believes in making the most of a good game when it happens. What Tottenham showed yesterday is something I’ve always desired to see when a team is in the ascendancy in a match. 3 or 4 or 5 goals is not the most you can score in a game and don’t just sit back and wait for the clock to wind down thinking you’ve done enough to enjoy dinner!
What stops you from scoring 8 or 9 or even 10?
A game is not finished until the whistle blows. The desire to score more goals and keep scoring regardless of what the score sheet says is very rare these days, even more rare in the Premiership and it’s nice to see when it happens. Afterall that’s what the game is about.
History is made at recognized opportuned times and this was once again proven by the Tottenham performance as Defoe become the only player who has ever scored 5 goals in one half of a football match.
Take note top teams because that’s how you finish a team off in style.
