ZavonHinesRA lot of us hadn’t heard of him before this season, but Gianfranco Zola and his team must have had scouts prowling around this 5 feet 10 inches tall striker by the name of Zavon Hines.

Born on December 27, 1988, Hines is a pacy forward who has in my opinion, has more than impressed even some of us who have been on the receiving end of his play.

His pace is definitely a plus but he is also intelligent on the ball. He is confident in his abilities and doesn’t really care if he has to run into a brick wall on his way to the goal.

Hines is a player that has been a super-sub for the Hammers this season. Pardon the expression super sub since he has only scored one goal so far in the premiership, but when he comes in as a substitute he definitely changes the game positively for the Hammers.

Most recent examples are the 2-2 draw when we (Arsenal) visited the Boleyn Ground and the Hammers second win of the season at Villa park where he scored the winner.

He was the Hammer’s lifeline in the game against the gunners. It was his run towards the 18 that prompted a tackle by Diaby which resulted in a free kick that was taken by Diamante which ended up too heavy for Manonne to handle that led to a Carlton Cole conversion for the Hammers first goal of the game.

The only thing that I’ve noticed about Mr. Hines’ is his temperament, which I guess is natural for his age. He seems to be a little short fused and can be guilty of ‘decent’ according to the modern day football definition of the word. He gets a little too excited when decisions don’t go his way which potentially riles him up and leaves him vulnerable to committing more fouls which could turn out negative for his team. His passion is not in question, but he will have to curtail and channel that passion in the right way to be one of the best players that has ever played for the Hammers.

Even though he is only 21 years old, Zavon Hines possesses the presence of a more experienced striker who has been in the premiership for years and hopefully will be one to watch for years to come.
