Diaby should be the temporary 9

AbouDiabyRHe is one of the most underrated Arsenal players but Abou Diaby just like Denilson and Eboue is a squad or team player who offer a new dimension to the Arsenal style of play that is almost unpredictable.

This is straight from a Coaches persepective without any intention of generating any controversy or abuse.

Abou Diaby has become a better player than he was last season. He seems to be coming into his own even though he shows there’s a lot more he needs in his game. For example he needs to work on his final pass, he needs to track back with confidence and not so indecisive sometimes in the front and definitely at the back. But one thing I like about Diaby is his desire on the pitch especially going forward.

He’s chipped in a few goals this season most recently on Saturday against Hull scoring the third goal which he took really well but he also created the second for Eduardo.

So……why not make Diaby the temporary number nine to help with the attacking options up front? Arshavin is currently playing the lone striker role but I think he is less effective most of the time because of the lack of that extra support to set him loose on his runs where he can do most damage.

Play Diaby upfront as a lone striker in place of Arshavin. Arshavin and Eduardo can play behind Diaby and play balls through to him.

Here are my reasons. Diaby is relatively fast, strong, and has a quick feet (skillful). He needs to have a bit more stamina and he needs to work on his finishing in the box which has gotten better this season.

There’s really nothing to lose with this idea. Critics of Diaby say he is inconsistent. Sometimes blows hot and cold you never know what to expect from him. My answer to that is assign him the lone striker role and instill the confidence in him that he is capable of being the savior upfront. The more games he plays, the more confident he gets and gradually he’ll grow into the role. As it is, Arsene Wenger has likened him to a growing Patrick Viera, so he must see something in him.

It’s worth a try especially based on his performance on Saturday. The gunners looked dull until he decided to venture forward and with the help of Song was able to remind us gunners fans what the team is capable of with one-two passing games.

Diaby for number 9, whose in with me on this?
